Microsoft has rolled out new firmware updates for the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Pro 6. However, the new release comes with minor refinements and primarily addresses security updates to improve system stability.
Despite being a minor update, Surface Pro 5 and Surface Pro 6 users are advised to install the new firmware updates. Besides, it could take a while before the update shows up on all devices, which is usually the case with firmware updates as rollout happens in stages.
Meanwhile, Microsoft also unveiled the latest Surface model back in January. The new device called the Surface Pro 7+ is an upgraded version of the Surface Pro 7, specifically aimed at business users. The latest Surface model gets powered by Intel’s 11th-generation Tiger Lake chips, which include the Core i3-1115G4, Core i5-1135G7, and Core i7-1165G7.
Microsoft has also added 4G LTE support with a Snapdragon X20 modem, however, this feature is only offered on the Intel Core i5 version of the Surface Pro 7+.
The latest Surface model also comes with removable storage and can be ordered with up to 1TB of storage. Being specifically targeted at business and education customers, these users will certainly find storage upgrades rather useful.
“Continuing with Surface Pro’s iconic form factor, we are introducing optional LTE Advanced with Surface Pro 7+, a top requested customer feature that helps keep people connected at home if Wi-Fi bandwidth is limited or if they are in a remote location. We have added the latest 11th Gen Intel Core Processors, with 2.1 times faster performance, and longer battery life of up to 15 hours. Surface Pro 7+ offers the versatility people need to work wherever, whenever they want,” said Microsoft.
The new Surface Pro 7+ starts at $899, while the LTE version will be offered at $1,149. Besides, key sources also indicate that a new Surface Pro model with smaller bezels is under the works, which is expected to be unveiled by the end of 2021.
In other related news, Microsoft is also planning a series of mini-events throughout 2021, that will focus on categories like cloud, gaming, and Windows.
